Working Title:

Basic prisoners' rights in Slovenia

Definition:

Prisoner´s rights are based on fundamental human rights. However, the rights of those serving time are often neglected by workers in institutions because they imagine that people who have committed a crime only have duties. In Slovenia many prisoners are not aware of the rights they have and how they are implemented.

Research questions:

1.How should guards act with prisoners?

2.What is the situation with visits? (Do all prisoners have equal rights to visits? How long are they? Is it true that when prisoners behave exceptionally well they are permitted longer visits?)

3.We would like to know how guards are informed about the rights of prisoners (Interview)

4.We would like to find out how education system works in prisons  and how many prisoners use it? (Interview)

5.Are the prisoners' rights really controlled by an impartial inspection?

6.Are there some differences between the rights of male and female prisoners?

7.We would like to find out about the right  to contact world outside the prison? (for example, if prisoners can use the Internet, how many times a week can they call their family...)

8.We would like to find out about releasing the prisoners on parole?

9. Are there any religious activities that are offered to prisoners?

10.How much privacy do the prisoners get?

11. We would like to find out about the regulations concerning the work of the prisoners?

12. How are the prisoners treated before the release from the prison (who and in what way helps them to get ready for life outside of the prison) (interview)
