Profesional hazards: burnout
Profesional hazards are a very common occurrence in the world of work. Overtime, long hours of work, heavy lifting, mental labour etc. These are all factors that affect physical and mental health thus consequently affect individual's private life. The focus of our research will be on the negative impact of burnout as a profesional hazard on the quality of life and work productivity. Burnout is becoming increasingly widespread because the world of work is changing. Employees have more tasks to accomplish, they are expected to be better skilled, educated, capable. In pursuit of success person's physical and mental health is often put on side track. In order to determine the impact the research will address reasons and consequences of burnout. In this manner it will be noted how to avoid burnout and thus to prevent diminishing the quality of life and work productivity.
The following questions will provide help for the research:
1) What are professional hazards known? Which are most frequent?
2) What forms of burnout are known?
3) In which professions burnout is the most frequent?
4) What are the stages of burnout?
5) When does it occur and how the occurance is explained?
6) How to avoid burnout?
7) What is the most common form of burnout?
8) What medical conditions can be linked to burnout?
9) How dangerous can burnout be for an individual?
10) Is burnout at workplace individual or social problem?

MINUTES OF THE FIRST MEETING
Held on 24th February, 2012 in NetCafe
Item 1: Selection of group names
Discussion: First of all Špela and Jasmina suggested an idea of formation about the name of the group. It should contain the first letters of our names. Other members agreed and Andreja made a list of possible versions. We voted for Ajšad, Jašad and Dajša. At the end of discussion we chose Dajša.
Decision: We decided for the name Dajša.
Item 2: Distribution of tasks
Discussion: We assigned roles to the members of the group. Andreja was selected as a group leader unanimously and Anže volunteered to be a time-keeper. Other members agreed. Our group has five members so we decided to have two time-keepers generally. David was assigned to be a time-keeper too. Jasmina chose the role of secretary and the role of reporter entitled to Špela. Absent student will be substituted by David or Anže (because they share the role of time-keeper).
Decision: Andreja is the group leader, Jasmina is the secretary, Špela is the reporter, David and Anže are time-keepers.
Item 3: Any other business
Discussion: The discussion was regarding our next meetings.
Decision: We agreed to meet 29th February after English lesson.

MINUTES OF THE SECOND MEETING (via E – MAIL)
Held on 6th March , 2012
AGENDA:
- Choosing the topic of the research paper
- Finding the main and the most important problem related to the topic
- Listing working questions
- Listing useful literature
Item 1
Discussion: First agenda item was the selection of the topic. We went trough the list of proposed topics prof. Ignjatovič gave us in the class and we marked those we thought would be interesting. We made a short list of selected topics and then voted for the topic.
Decision: We agreed on Professional diseases and risks as our main topics.
Item 2
Discussion: We decided on the topic and started talking about our problem. Andreja proposed »Professional diseases diminish the quality of life and labor productivity« as possible problem denifition. Anže suggested we could write about nuclear accidents like Fokushima or Cernobil and Špela proposed we could write about chemicals and radiation. David suggested we could write about burnout because it is becoming more and more present in modern concept of work. We all agreed on David's proposal.
Decision: Defined problem: »Burnout as a profesional hazard diminishes the quality of life and work productivity«
Item 3
Discussion: While defining the problem we also formed some research questions that will help us with our work.
Decision: Research questions:
1) What are professional hazards known? Which are most frequent?
2) What forms of burnout are known?
3) In which professions burnout is the most frequent?
4) What are the stages of burnout?
5) When does it occur and how the occurance is explained?
6) How to avoid burnout?
7) What is the most common form of burnout?
8) What medical conditions can be linked to burnout?
9) How dangerous can burnout be for an individual?

MINUTES OF THE THIRD MEETING
Held on 12th March, 2012
AGENDA:
- Correcting mistakes made at the last meeting
- Defining the main chapters of our research paper
- Task Distribution
- Other
Item 1
Discussion: We talked about the mistakes that were done at the last meeting and reviewed them individually in the previous PBL report. Špela and Andreja said they were going to correct and improve the mistakes on our Wiki page.
Decision: We found the mistakes and eliminated them.
Item 2
Discussion:The research paper will consist of theoretical and empirical part. It will include theoretical aspect of the problem as well as sociological research. Theoretical part will be divided in sub-chapters. Andreja proposed that one of the sub-chapters in the theoretical part could be “What is job burnout?”. Others agreed. Špela then suggested that one of the chapters could be related to burnout in private life and Jasmina added that there is also a very important chapter called “How to avoid burnout?”. We all agreed that this could be the right structure for our research paper.
Decision: Our research paper will be stuctured as follows:
- What is burnout?
- How can we see the connections and consequences of burnout in private life?
- How to avoid burnout?
Item 3
Discussion: We talked about the distribution of tasks. This implies that each of us will do one of the parts in our research paper and in the end we are going to discuss each individual’s work.
Decision: Everyone in our group will do one part (or chapter) in our research paper.
Item 4
Discussion: We discussed the date of our next meeting and the tasks from the previous PBL reports which are still to be corrected.
Decision: The next meeting will be held on 16th March. We have also agreed that we have to re-write most of our research questions and at the next meeting we are going to distribute research questions to each individual in the group. What is more, we also need to talk about our research method – we have not decided whether this will be an interview or a survey yet.
