                                           Stereotypes at the workplace

In the research, which is based on stereotypes at the workplace, the focus will be kept on the relations between stereotypes and productivity. The problem that is found most interesting is how stereotypes at the workplace disable productivity. When people talk about stereotypes, they make all kinds of assumptions about others and subconsciously they start to look for them. Eventually there might be noticed some random events or actions that confirm their assumptions and because of that, people close their minds about the individual. Because they stop seeing a person as a whole, their whole focus related to that individual is directed to the negative viewpoints. This stereotypical assumption that people make about co-workers damages their abilities to work well and productively with that person. It also has an impact on the quality of the work results and on the very same product.

In that matter, the person responsible in avoiding stereotypes and the workplace is a human resource manager. He or she can reduce stereotypes between employees and on the other hand try to withdraw themselves from all kinds of stereotypes while they are holding interviews. Because of the importance a human resource manager has when it comes to stereotypes at workplace, we decided to include them in our empyrical part of the research.

Questions which will help us find the solution are following:

  1. What kind of stereotypes appear at the workplace and what are they based on? (Ivana)
  2. Why do stereotypes have such a great influence on working atmosphere? (Ivana)
  3. How strongly does the stereotype affects the individual? (Venesa)
  4. How do stereotypes reduce work productivity?(Venesa)
  5. Who has the biggest role in reducing stereotyping at workplace? (Miranda)
  6. How does the manager handle the whole problem with stereotyping? (Miranda)
  7. Are there any laws or legal acts that protect workers from stereotyping? (Želimir)
  8. How can we interact with diverse professional co-workers from different culture? (Želimir)
  9. How to connect with people/co-workers on a personal level without creating stereotypes? (Mojca)
  10. What are the practices or actions individual can take to remove stereotypes from the workplace? (Mojca)
