Discussion of issues

Issue 1: PBL PROBLEM

Petra: Hi girls, we said that our PBL problem will be: WHAT DO PEOPLE DO WHEN THEY GET SICK? - do you all agree with it or you want do change anything?

Helena: Hi. i totally agree with Petra. I think this issue is very interesting.

Manca: I think it is ok-it will be very interesting to see the results:)

Maruška: Hy. I agree with you two and I hope we'll make an interesting report;)

Petra: We have talked to our subject teacher and she suggested not to change or narrow our problem because it is ok.

Decision 1: WHAT DO PEOPLE DO WHEN THEY GET SICK

Decision 2: We have decided to research the topic that is

connected with helth - What do people do when they get

sick? We will use a concept of Parsons sick role, compare it

with the results of our interwievs which will be done with

3 of our friends.

These are the qestions that we will ask students:

1. What do you do when you get ill?

2. How often do you get ill?

3. Which are the most common illnesses that you get?

4. When do you visit doctor and why?

5. What is your opinion on doctors' work?

6. How often do you take different kinds of medication?

7. In case of flu, describe the whole procedure of what you do.

8. How do you feel when you get ill?

9. Which medications do you use the most?

10. Have you ever tried an alternative way of treatment? Which one? If not, what is your opinion on it?

Minutes of the 1st group meeting

Minutes of the meeting »Problem Based Learning Project«

held on 6 November, 2006 at Šumi

Present: Manca Krt, Petra Vučko, Helena Debeljak, Urška Humar

Absent: Maruška Podbevšek (but she cooperated on the wiki)

Agenda:

1. Changing or narrowing our problem

2. Research questions

Item 1:

We got the suggestion from our english teacher to narrow our problem, therefore Petra proposed that we could focus on the problem of waiting lines at doctors. However, by contacting our subject teacher Blanka Tivadar by e-mail, we got the suggestion not to do it.

Decision: Our problem is staying the same, without narrowing it.

Item 2:

We already have 10 research questions, therefore we have decided that everyone will interview 3 students, and by the suggestion of our subject teacher compare them with Parson's sick role.

The next meeting will be held on Thusday, 14 November at 2 PM at Šumi.

Minutes taker: Urška Humar

Chair: Maruška Podbevšek

Minutes of the 2nd group meeting

Minutes of the meeting "Problem Based Learning Project"

held on 14 November, 2006 at Šumi

Present: Manca Krt, Petra Vučko, Urška Humar

Absent: Helena Debeljak, Maruška Podbevšek (but they cooperated on the wiki)

Agenda:

1. Discussing about task distribution

2. Searching the literature

Item 1:

We were discussing about who will do what. Manca and Petra have already constructed 10 research questions and all of us five have to interview 3 students, then analyse the answers and compare them with the concept of Parson's sick role. Manca has already done also the theoretical concept for our report. Helena and Maruška will create the introduction and the conclusion.

Item 2:

About literature, our subject teacher Blanka Tivadar suggested us to use Maguire's article Parsons's sick role as basis for our theoretical concept. Sources for our research questions will be answers from interviews.

Minutes taker: Urška Humar

Chair: Maruška Podbevšek

Minutes of the 3rd group meeting

Minutes of the meeting "Problem Based Learning Project"

held on 24 November, 2006 at 14.00 at FDV library

Present: Petra Vučko, Manca Krt, Helena Debeljak, Maruška Podbevšek, Urška Humar

Agenda:

1. Action-item follow-up

2. Changing the plan

3. Any other bussiness

Item 1:

All of us have interviewed 3 students and we have already started comparising the answers with Parsons's sick role.

Item 2:

However, Perta and Urška found out, that the answers are so many similar, that it would be absurdly to compare each answer with Parsons's sick role in a table. Petra suggested, that we could write one analysis for all the interviews and then compare general findings with the sick role. We all agreed with the suggestion and Petra recommended herself to try to do it.

Decision: Petra will try to analyse the answers, the others will check her findings and improve them if necessary.

Item 3:

The next meeting will be hold on 28 November, 2006 at 14.00 at Šumi.

Minutes taker: Urška Humar

Chair: Maruška Podbevšek

Item 1:

Petra did the analysis of interviews and Manca did the comparison of our general findings with the Parsons's sick role. Petra also points out the problem about long waiting time at doctors and wrote few sentences connected to it. Helena wrote the introduction and Maruška wrote the conclusion.

Decision: we will send our product to our English teacher and subject teacher to get their opinion about it.

Item 2:

We have been discussing about who will present wich part of our report. Everyone chose one part. Helena will tell some words in order to introduct our presentation, Manca will continue with presenting the theoretical part which is Parsons's sick role, Petra will present the results of analysis, Urška will compare these results with theoretical concept and Maruška will finish our presentation.

Decision: Everyone will prepare some slides with key points, which will support our presentation.

Hi everyone,
Just to let you know that you don't need to consider my yesterday's suggestions regarding the refinement of your PBL problem since you'd already agreed on that with prof. Tivadar. Please, follow her instructions.
However, don't forget to post the elaborated version of the problem in your page.
Hope to read you soon!

Lep pozdrav,
Blanka Tivadar
