 Discrimination and work

GENERATIONAL CONFLICT

Definition:

Discrimination at work is an increasingly burning issue. In the workforce we are witnessing a generational conflict. On the one hand we have older and more experienced employees, but on the other hand the young who are more flexible and are generally better educated. There are examples of replacing older workers with younger and more motivated. Our research will focus on the problem of discrimination among young and elder employees, and we will try to explain its causes and consequences.

Questions:

1. How can the young and the elder work together efficently?

2. What kind of jobs are given to the elder and to the young?

3. Why are people over 40 with lower education less employable than the younger with the same education?

4. Who is more discriminated at work; the young or the elder?

5. Is discrimination between the elder and the young in any way positive and if yes, why so?

6. Did the problem of generational conflict at work appear in the 21st century or was it already present in the past?

7. Is generational conflict a bigger problem in work collectives with higher or with lower education?

8. Do elder more experienced workers take advantage of the younger (less experienced) workers and make them do more work than necessary?

Distribution of tasks:

Simon will focus on question number 5 and 7. He will try to find out if different generations can work together efficiently despite their differences, and if education can corelate in any way to the problem of generational discrimination.

Lilijana will try to find out what kind of employment positions are given to the elder workforce and what kind to the younger.

Nejc will examine the history of generational conflict, and he will also study how elder workers can make younger do their work.

Tamara will study which group is more discriminated; the younger or the elder and she will also try to find out why people over 40 are less employable.

Blaž`s contribution will be finding out if the young and the elder can work together efficently.
