Doping among young Slovenian sportsmen

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Definition of our problem:

The usage of illegal drugs among young in sports is rapidly growing. Latest studies show that about 3 to 12 % of young men and 1 to 2 % of women confessed using androgenic stereoids. We have to mention young Chinese and American athletes that were caught using illegal drugs. There are also several cases of doping affairs in bicycling and many more. Basic problems that come to mind are firstly, that sport is supposed to be about equal possibilities and fair-play, and secondly, that doping can severely damage human body. Our group will research how spread this problem is among young Slovenian sportsmen. We will focus on students at Faculty of Sport in Ljubljana. And we will try to find out what are their experiences, what is their opinion and what is their knowledge about doping. Through our research we will try to point out some solutions on how to minimise drug abuse in sports and how to protect young Slovenian athletes from doping.

 

 

Basic research questions:

1. What is doping?

2. Which stimulants in sport are illegal and which are allowed?

3. How do drugs affect human body?

4. What are positive consequences of drug use?

5. What are negative consequences of drug use?

6. In which sports are doping affairs more common and why particularly there?

7. What sort of experiences with illegal substaneces do Sloveninan young sportsmen have?

8. What is their view on drug use for enhancing their performance?

9. Are there any programs in Slovenia for educating young sportsmen and women on this subject?

10. Which Slovenian organizations are engaged in researching and controlling the use of drugs in sports?

11. What are their functions and does any of them deal with young sportsmen?

12. What are their methods for discovering the usage of illegal drugs?

13. What are the consequences for sportsmen that have been caught using illegal drugs?

14. What are the solutions for preventing use of illegal substances among young Slovenian sportsmen?

 

Distribution of tasks:

Jernej will work on the first two questions.

Marcel has questions number 3,4 and 5.

Marko will try to answer the questions 6,7 and 8.

Mateja will work on the question 9 .

Toni has questions number 10, 11 and 12.

Simona will try to answer the last two questions number 13 and 14.

Minutes of the first e-meeting »Problem Based Learning Project«

Item 1:

We had a few problems, because initialy we did not agree on the theme of our project. But at the end we came to an agreement that out theme will be Drugs in sport.

 

Item 2:

We discussed the problem. Jernej said that he will take care of the definition.

 

Item 3:

We discussed and formed some questions which could be relevant for our project. Marcel will make the list of all 10 questions.

 

Item 4:

We arranged that everybody sends its part to each other by e-mail.

Minutes of the second meeting »Problem Based Learning Project«

Item 1:

All assignments from the previous meeting have been done. We have to improve our definition and research questions. We also have to rearrange our title. We decided to that we will do a survey among students who visit Faculty of sports. We will try to find out if students are using forbidden substances and what is their opinion about doping. Jernej said that he will rearrange definition, and Marcel will rearrange some questions. Mateja will take care that our WIKI page will be grammatically correct and arranged.

 

Item 2:

Marko and Toni will search for literature. All other members will help them if they will have problems.

 

Item 3:

We distributed our tasks in a way that all of the members in our group have the same amount of the work.

 

Item 4:

We admitted new member to our group-Toni, but unfortunately he could not take part at the second meeting. We will also tell him what we have decided on our 2nd meeting.
