Title:

Recatholisation and redomestification of women in today's Slovenian society

Definition:

In her text on the Catholicism and discrimination, Maca Jogan defines this problem according to androcentric society, which is being reproduced by the Catholic Church until today. It rooted women in the traditional role, which hinders the equality between women and men and consequently increases the gender gap. Women are therefore by the definition of Church pushed only into (not paid) domestic sphere. “Modern' woman is made into the 'producer' of people and also God's folk. Without the births and care made by the women the religious community would not be possible” (Jogan 2005: 597).

Research questions:

  1. How does Catholic Church influence the discrimination of women?
  2. Connection between recatholisation and redomestification of women in Slovenia today
  3. How are the consequences of these two processes manifested in our society?
  4. How does the Catholic Church comment on these accusations?
  5. What do some Slovenian gender experts say on this topic?
  6. Are there any overlapping points between the experts which we will interview and the texts we will analyse?
  7. Are there any chances to solve this problem – how would the Catholic Church have to act to change the current conditions/problems?
